I’m new to roses. Just planted them last year. And the one thing gardening has shown me real fast is that there’s no such thing as setting it and forgetting it. Every single day you’re out there checking for pests, watching the soil, making sure things are actually growing the way they should.
I started picking up old gardening books whenever I’d find them at used book sales. And here’s what got me, it didn’t matter if the book was from 1972 or printed last year. The core instructions? Always the same. Prune here. Plant here. Watch for this. What works just works. You trust it and you work it.
And that just… hit me differently.
Because our daily walk with God is the exact same way.
There’s a Book and the truth in it doesn’t expire. Doesn’t get a new edition. It says right there inside itself that it’s same yesterday, today, and forever. And over centuries has held true.
I can trust the divine Master Gardener of my life the same way I trust those gardening pages with my roses.

This second season with our roses is requiring much more grit and perseverance than last season. This year we are dealing with pest and black spot and yet the flowers are still beautiful but only because every day we are putting in the work to care for them and fight for them. We must all do the same with our lives. Stay rooted in Christ no matter what comes so that we can continue to prosper in all we do and blossom.
